What's so Special about a Specialty?
A Specialty is a dog show for a specific breed. Every year since 1998, PVBMDC has sponsored a Specialty Show in the Frederick, Maryland area where Berners compete in Obedience & Conformation classes, and beginning in 2009, Rally Obedience. Close to 200 Bernese Mountain Dogs attend these shows.
Our show was traditionally a two-day event, but beginning in 2010 we've added a Friday evening Rally Competition, and in 2011 we are added a second Obedience Trial. The morning Obedience Trial will start early Saturday a.m. in a separate, heated building, close to the Main Hall where Sweepstakes will start the conformation venue. Sweepstakes features Puppy Classes (ages 6 months to junior adults 18 months) AND Veterans (seniors ages 7 and up). Winners receive cash prizes and trophies. Following the completion of Sweeps judging, there will be a regular Conformation competition, including Junior Showmanship. Meanwhile, in the Obedience building, a second Trial will begin in the afternoon, affording a second opportunity to score qualifying runs for titles.
On Sunday, Conformation classes begin early in the morning with another Junior Showmanship competition followed by Regular Conformation classes for Puppies and Adults, and continue until the judge awards the top prize of Best of Breed at the end of the day (usually late afternoon).
Visitors are welcome to come watch the event (please leave your dogs at home). Note that strollers are not allowed inside the building. Vendors of dog supplies, especially Berner items, will be on hand both days. Food is available on the grounds.
Plenty of free parking.
Admission - donation requested.
