Local Dog Wash Offers Extended Hours
The Dawg Wash, a self service dog wash located within a mile of the Frederick Fairgrounds, has offered extended hours on February 22 & 23 to accommodate PV Specialty attendees who want to do some last minute grooming prior to showing on the 23th & 24th. They have everything you need to get those coats sparkling -- from shampoo and conditioners, to forced air dryers and grooming tables. The shop owners are very friendly and have a large Berner clientele. You don't need to be chagrinned by clumps of Berner fur flying through the air, they handle the clean-up too! What's so Special about a Specialty?
A Specialty is a dog show for a specific breed. Every year since 1998, PVBMDC has sponsored a Specialty Show in the Frederick, Maryland area where Berners compete in Obedience & Conformation classes. Close to 200 Bernese Mountain Dogs attend these shows.
Our show is a two-day event. Obedience judging opens the show on Saturday morning, followed by a Conformation Sweepstakes Saturday afternoon. The Sweepstakes features Puppy Classes (ages 6 months to junior adults 18 months) AND Veterans (seniors ages 7 and up). Winners receive cash prizes and trophies.
On Sunday, Conformation classes begin early in the morning with a Junior Handler competition followed by Regular Conformation classes for Puppies and Adults, and continue until the judge awards the top prize of Best of Breed at the end of the day (usually late afternoon).
Visitors are welcome to come watch the event (please leave your dogs at home). Note that strollers are not allowed inside the building. Vendors of dog supplies, especially Berner items, will be on hand both days. Food is available on the grounds. Plenty of free parking.
Admission - donation requested.
